"Cyberpunk 2077" is back in the PlayStation Store - but only with warning. Adam Kicinski, Joint CEO and thus one of the managing director of CD Project Red, designates the current performance as "satisfactory". And over half a year after the show of the Action Roleplay for PlayStation 4.
Without wanting to go close to anyone here, but here something huge goes wrong. "Cyberpunk 2077" was a shear pile in the console version and was not wrongly removed from the PlayStation Store. Despite numerous updates, the game is not until today. In fact, the title forecasted as a Christmas hit 2020 continues to plague numerous problems **.
Crunch, Deadlines and False Company Policy often lead to bug and glitch festivals. That was before and during the Corona pandemic so and will be like that too. We say: Dear Developers and Publisher, finally puts more money and trouble in your quality assurance!
Bugs are not a new problem ...
The fact that errors can occur again and again and can break the game fun is well-known. Are you still reminiscent of "Assassin's Creed: Unity"? The pictures of faceless heroes made the lap as today and are now symbolic of poor quality standards. For Ubisoft, this fiasco became an expensive affair and even led to "Assassin's Creed" no longer appeared in the annual change. Lara Croft also stumbled into "Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness" about all sorts of program errors and unaccepts, as well as the hot expected gangster adventure "Driver 3". Flying cars, stuck characters and other difficulties brought the up to date popular "GTA" competitors an abrupt end.
If ambitions and built hype do not fit into (un-) finished product, the developer and publisher brings problems. An angry community and especially the day-one buyers feel drawn for their right trust over the table. The recent examples such as "Cyberpunk 2077" or "Biomutant" showed that all anticipation for a new game is also caution. That with an online role-playing game or a MMO shooter is started at the beginning of sand in the server gear, it is almost a good sound. That solo adventure but on the edge of the playability can not be.
There's another way!
But it works differently! Current exclusive games like "Returnal" and in special "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" show that. Both were finished in the middle of the pandemic and thus largely finished in the home office and finely ground. Nevertheless, they came almost faultless and in the case of "Ratchet & Clank" even without prior developer crunch on the market. They are pattern examples on how to run the development of successful major productions.
Of course, Housemarque and Insomniac Games have a decisive advantage: Sony strengthened his back two studios and gave the team's sufficient time to finish the games. One should be clear at this point: Quality assurance costs time and money, it requires good people and decision makers who are willing to be adapted in the worst case even certain aspects of the project.
At the same time, however, the game has to get out at some point. The closer so the release date is back and the scarce the financial possibilities in the background are, the greater the challenge. In times of home office and changing workflows, such a task seems all the more complex. In the case of "Return" and "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart", however, it has been mastered, but not other current titles.
Care, time and structure
There will never give the perfect, lightning video or computer game. For this purpose, the AAA productions are now much too complex and who digs deep enough, there is still one or other inconsistency. Glitches have always some sympathetic and often ensure unwanted laughs in the game. It becomes problematic only if the rule becomes from these exceptional cases. And at this point, developers and publishers must start: even months after release, for example, in "Assassin's Creed Valhalla" were still serious "game-breaking bugs", which occurred only after 60 and more hours.
Other opinions:
- Will the PS5 for Next Generation Disappointment?
- The Xbox Game Pass could be for plague for PlayStation players
If someone still asks how to make players frustrated back on the console - just like that! Nothing is angry to sink into a game as countless hours and then suddenly came across his head. The same applies to the constructed anticipation of "cyberpunk 2077" to create the CD project red sent an enormous hype.
We are not concerned with involving developers and to start their mistakes. Rather, we wish a rethinking: more time, more resources - both financially and in the number of employees - and above all more care. Other messages to opinion.
